I’m so excited about this new tatting pattern. This is a beautiful and easy necklace tatting pattern.
I’ve been wanting to do a necklace pattern for a while. And I finally made a tatted necklace, got the shape right and now I’m ready to release the free tatting pattern.
This tatting pattern uses smaller thread and creates an elegant choker-style necklace. This is an easy tatting pattern and I think that a beginner can make it.
While tatting is most commonly known for making dollies and lace edgings. You can also make jewelry like necklaces, earrings and bracelets.
Tatting to me makes really elegant jewelry. And the closure I used for the necklace is a magnet clasp.

Here is the free tatting diagram for this necklace pattern. I like to have the written pattern and the tatting diagram.
And there are many different styles of magnetic clasps to choose from. You can get some with rhinestones and in different shapes.
You could also make this necklace using lobster clasps. So, you can use whatever closure you prefer.
The finished necklace is approx. 14.5″ without the clasp. But, you could make the necklace longer or shorter, it’s whatever you prefer.
This free tatting pattern uses the ball and shuttle tatting method. But, you could always use a tatting needle instead. This is also a beginner tatting pattern, because you just need to know how to make the basic rings and chains.
Tatting key
- ds = double stitches
- Ch = chain
- R = ring
- (-) = picot
- (+) = join
Go!
Wind your shuttle with the size 40 cotton thread.
R: 4ds – 4ds – 4ds – 4ds close, turn your work over.
Ch: 6ds, turn.
R: 3ds – 4ds + 4ds – 3ds close.
R: 3ds + 3ds – 1ds – 1ds – 3ds – 3ds close.
R: 3ds + 4ds – 4ds – 3ds close, turn.
*Ch: 3ds – 3ds – 3ds – 3ds – 3ds – 3ds, turn.
R: 3ds – 4ds + 4ds – 3ds close.
R: 3ds + 3ds – 1ds – 1ds – 3ds – 3ds close.
R: 3ds + 4ds – 4ds – 3ds close, turn.
Repeat from * until you have tatted a total of 28 groups of the three rings and continue the pattern below. Or, you can continue until you have the necklace as long as you want it. You could even make the necklace shorter if you prefer.
Ch: 6ds. turn.
R: 4ds + 4ds – 4ds – 4ds close. Cut and tie off the end and weave them in and trim the threads.
Now, attach the clasps to the jump rings and attach the jump rings to the end rings of the necklace. To open the jump rings you’ll need a pair of jewelry pliers.
Now, you have a finished tatted necklace. The tatting pattern is a really easy one, it just basically repeats the same steps over and over.
I love the way the necklace turned out. It looks so elegant and classy, the necklace will look great for wearing with casual or fancier outfits.
