Here is my free mushroom tatting pattern and tutorial. This cute little mushroom is easy to make and it’s also a quick tatting project.
This is a easy tatting project and to make the mushroom you’ll use to different sizes of crochet thread. You’ll use #10 for the mushroom top and #30 for the mushroom stem.
When I was creating this pattern I actually sketched it out first. Because I wasn’t sure of the shape I wanted the mushroom to be.
Sometimes I will sketch out the pattern first on a piece of paper. And sometimes I don’t sketch it out.
Even after I sketched the mushroom with the rings and chains and how I wanted them to look. I still had to tat the mushroom top quite a few times until I got the mushroom top to look right.
This mushroom pattern is a beginner project and you could even make the mushroom in different colors. I like to make my mushrooms with red crochet thread, but you could use brown, gray or any other color.

This free tatting pattern uses the ball and shuttle method of tatting. Or, you could use a needle and a ball of crochet thread.

This finishes the outer edge of the mushroom, now we’re going to work on the inner part of the mushroom. Do Not cut the thread, but continue the pattern below.
Ch: 3ds – 4ds – 3ds, turn.
R: 4ds + 4ds + 4ds – 5ds close, turn.

Stem:

Ch: 3ds – 3ds – 3ds. Connect the end of this chain to the base of the first ring. Cut and tie off the threads and weave them in.
Part 2:
Now, you’ll work on the second part of the stem.

Ch: 3ds – 3ds join to the bottom chain picot of the first part of the stem, 3ds, turn.
R: 3ds + 3ds – 3ds close, turn.
Ch: 3ds + 3ds – 3ds, turn.
R: 3ds + 3ds – 3ds close, turn.
Ch: 3ds – 3ds – 3ds, turn.
R: 3ds + 3ds join to the picot of the first ring, 3ds close, turn.
Ch: 3ds – 3ds – 3ds. Connect the end of the chain to the base of the first ring. Cut and tie off the ends and weave them in.
Now you have a finished tatted mushroom. I love how this mushroom tatting pattern turned out.
I think this is a great beginner project, because this tatting pattern uses just the basic rings and chains. And even though you use smaller #30 crochet thread for the stem, this is still an easy tatting pattern.
I hope that you enjoyed making this tatted mushroom. Thank you for looking at this free pattern and be sure to check back on my blog often for new tatting tutorials and patterns.
