Hey everybody, here lately I’ve been in a creative mood. So, this post is about how to use Clover’s flower frill template to make pretty flowers.
And you can use these flower for all kinds of different projects. You can use them to decorate dresses, tops, skirts and jackets, but you can also them to decorate purses, tote bags, headbands, belts and more. You could even use the smaller sizes for doll clothes and little girl dresses.

The great thing about Clover’s flower frill template is that you can get the templates in 6 different sizes, mini, extra small, small, medium, large and extra large. So, you can have the perfect size for whatever project you want.

What Fabric Should I Use?
Before we get into making the flowers, let’s talk about what fabric you should make the flowers with.
Lighter fabrics are the best fabrics. Fabrics like, cotton, tulle, taffeta, chiffon, and silk. But, you shouldn’t use heavy fabrics like denim, felt, or wool, because heavier fabrics are hard to fold and just don’t look right.
I use cotton most of the time, I did use tulle to make one flower. I liked the tulle flower, but to me the cotton flower looked better, so I prefer using cotton fabric.
Supplies
- Clover’s Flower Frill Template
- Fabric
- Fabric Scissors (make sure you have a good pair, because you have to cut multiple layers at once.)
- Sewing Needle
- Thread
Go!
Step 1: The first thing you need to do is to thread your needle with a length of thread that’s about 18 inches long. Knot the end of the thread and set aside for now.

Step 2: Cut about 15 or so squares of fabric. I like to set my flower template on the fabric and cut a square of fabric about 1/2 of an inch bigger around than the edge of the template.
Step 3: Lay the template on the right side of the fabric.

Step 4: Fold the template with the fabric in half. See the picture below to see how I folded it.

Step 5: Hold the folded edge away from you and turn the two outer petals to the middle.

Step 6: Now for the last fold you’ll fold the petals away from you, so it will look like you only have one petal left.

Step 7: Carefully trim the fabric around the curved edge, being careful not to cut the template.

Step 8: Take the threaded needle and poke the needle through the bottom point of the folded fabric. Remove the template and push the fabric about 4 inches from the knotted end of thread.

Step 9: Repeat steps 3 to 8 until you have approx. 15 petals on the thread. And I like to use a straight pin to keep the petals together. You can also adjust the number of petals to suit your preference.

Step 10: After you have 15 or so petals you’ll tie the two ends of the thread together securely.

Step 11: Pull each of the fabric petals open to create a fuller looking flower.

Now, you have a finished frill flower. After you figure out how to fold the fabric, these are very easy to make. And you can make these flowers in any color or print of fabric.
I did a flower in a pink floral print fabric and solid fabrics. Any color of fabric or print will make pretty flowers, the color you want to make will just depend on the color of project you want to add them to. Or, just what color you want to make them.

I hope this post has helped you and shown you how to use the flower frill template from Clover. I love these flowers and just need to find something to add them to.
