These beaded felt heart ornaments would be perfect for Valentine’s day decorations, or Christmas tree ornaments. You can make the ornaments in different felt colors and different colors of beads. I made the ornaments with red and white felt and red seed beads. But, you can use pink felt and pink seed beads instead, or really any color combinations.
And I use embroidery floss to hang the ornament, but you can also use ribbon or twine or whatever you prefer to hang the ornaments. But, I’ll show in you in the instructions below how I tie the embroidery floss to the ornament.
Beads aren’t just use in jewelry making, because you can use them in embroidery, cross stitch and many other things.
I love that the beads give the felt heart a more intermediate look. It’s also looks harder to do than it really is. This beaded felt heart is good for beginners who want to start using beads in their felt projects.
The embroidery needle I use allows most of the seed bead to go over the eye of the needle. Some of the seed beads won’t go over the eye, but the majority of the beads do. I could use a bead needle, but I just use a #7 crewel embroidery needle. The seed beads I use are size 11 and the color is transparent ruby.
What size seed beads can I use for felt projects?
The size of seed beads you want to use is really up to you. You could use smaller seed beads or larger ones. It depends on the look you want to give your project. But, my preferred size of seed beads are size 11, I like the look of the smaller beads.
If you are working on a larger project bigger beads might be better. But, I personally wouldn’t use large beads for tiny projects, the larger beads might over power the look of a small project.
What size seed beads are there?
The most common sizes of seed beads are 6/0, 8/0, 11/0, 12/0, 13/0 and 15/0.
The largest is 6/0 and the smallest is 15/0, you just have to remember that larger numbers = smaller beads and smaller number = larger beads.
What shapes of beads are there?
The most common shape of beads is round seed beads. But, some of the other shapes are cylinder, bugle, square, drop, triangle, and hexagon. Also, a couple more types of beads are lamp work, glass crackle, sugar and crystal beads.
Beads can be made from shell, bone, pearl, wood, stone, glass and they can also be made with plastic.

First you need to print out the heart template below
Don’t want to make it now, just save this post for later on your Pinterest Here.
Instructions
Step 1: Cut two large hearts of felt, and two center hearts of another color of felt.
Step 2: Place center heart in the middle of the larger heart, positioning it in the middle.
Step 3: Using two strands of embroidery thread, starting at the top of the center heart do the beaded blanket stitch.
Stitch all the way around the center heart to secure it to the larger heart.
Step 4: Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the other heart pieces.
Step 5: Place the two hearts back to back, and starting anywhere do the beaded blanket stitch.
Finish stitching all the way around the heart and tie off.
Now the heart part of the ornament is done, all that is left to do is to tie the floss on the ornament.
How to tie the embroidery floss on the ornament
Step 1: Take a 8 inch piece of embroidery floss and go through the top of the ornament.
Step 2: Holding the ends even, wrap the floss over your finger and take the ends thru the loop, but Do Not tighten the thread.
Step 3: Carefully pull the loop close to the top of the ornament, and tighten the thread.
Step 4: Using the same method as before tie the thread, about 1/2″ from the end of the thread.
Now you have a beaded felt heart ornament, you can also make the ornaments in different colors. I did the ornaments in red and white felt with red beads, but I think that pink and white felt with pink beads would also be pretty, or really any color combination.
