I love gummy bears and chocolate, so what better then to combined the two. The combination of fruity gummy bears with the chocolaty goodness is perfect together to create a fun snack. This is like a chewy version of chocolate chips. Everybody loves chocolate covered strawberries, so is it any wonder chocolate covered gummy bears are great.
But, the best thing about this recipe is that it is super easy to make. It’s just two ingredients and very few step to make this delicious treat.
All you need is a bowl, some chocolate and a bag of gummy bears.
These gummy bears would be the perfect gift for Valentine’s Day or any other holiday or just to give to good friends. And you can make them, without looking in different candy stores and than paying a hefty sum if you do find them.
This is a really easy recipe it’s only two ingredients. I use semisweet chocolate chips, but you could use dark chocolate, white chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips, or you could even make homemade chocolate with cocoa powder. After you have dipped the gummy bears you could sprinkle sea salt or colored sprinkles over them or even crush up some pretzels or peppermints.
You could even put a little of vanilla extract or cherry extract in the chocolate before you dip the bears. In this recipe I don’t use coconut oil, but you could use that, cacao butter, or shortening but, I wouldn’t use vegetable oil.
These chewy gummy bears would also be great on ice cream, and instead of gummy bears you could dip gummy worms. I wonder what sour gummy worms would taste like dipped in chocolate or peach rings.
Using coconut oil for the chocolate covered gummy bears recipe
I did try to use coconut oil in the chocolate as I melted it. But, then you would have to store the candies in a fridge. And the candies wanted to melt on your fingers. But, the coconut oil did make the chocolate shiny and pretty. Not using any type of oil let’s you keep the candies on the counter at room temperature. But, to me there wasn’t a taste difference in using coconut oil or not using it. If you do want to use coconut oil, put about 1/2 to 1 Tablespoons of oil in the chocolate before melting. If you don’t use oil you may have to heat the chocolate in the middle of dipping again.
Can you substitute butter for coconut oil?
No, you can’t. I actually tried to used butter at first, but instead of making the chocolate creamy it made it thicker so I couldn’t dip the bears. But, a lot of people use shortening instead of coconut oil.

Instructions for chocolate covered gummy bears
Step 1: Melt chocolate is the first thing you do. Place the chocolate in a heat-safe bowl and microwave, heating chocolate at 30 second intervals until completely melted.
Step 2: After the chocolate mixture is melted, now you get ready to dip the bears. If the chocolate starts to harden before you have finished dipping the bears, just microwave for another 30 seconds.
Step 3: Line a baking sheet with wax paper or parchment paper.
Step 4: Drop a couple of the bears in the melted chocolate, then using a fork or a slotted spoon scoop up a bears, tap the fork on the side of the bowl to knock off the excess chocolate drip, and place on the baking sheet. Hint: When you pick the bears out of the chocolate place the bears sideways on the fork. Then when you place them on the baking sheet carefully tip them on their back.
Step 5: After you have finished dipping the bears place the baking sheet in the freezer until the chocolate has hardened.
Step 6: Now you can place the chocolate gummy bears in a airtight container or in a little baggie.
This gummy bear recipe is that easy, you could even dip the bears a second time if you want a thicker chocolate coating. Or, you could pour the melted chocolate on the baking sheet and put the gummy bears on top to make a gummy bear bark. If you use white chocolate using food coloring would be perfect to make red and green chocolate covered gummy bears for Christmas. Using creamy milk chocolate is also a good choice instead of semisweet chocolate.
